Concerning the Doors Open situation, I want to express my thanks to Jane Rigby and all the volunteers who worked with her to make it such a success in the six years she organized it.

It took a year of planning, not a few months, and very dedicated people to make sure it was a success. I volunteered for Heart and Stroke for 25 years, also the Cancer Society for 25 years, and the March of Dimes for many years. When due to health issues I had to quit, there were NO people willing and able to take over the route.

The younger generation does not want to volunteer. They feel they have enough with raising a family, both parents working, and other life issues.

Well, I raised a family, babysat, and worked and still did a lot of volunteering in the community, AND I am still a very active volunteer.

Volunteers can have 'burn out' but there are still many of us out there. Mind you, we are not between the ages of 25 and 50, most of us are older.

It's sad that the younger generation does not make more effort to volunteer, such as with the Scouting Movement - that is sad, and so many people have given many years there also. I know we gave about eight years to the Scouting Movement when our sons were involved, and we enjoyed it.

Parents today want their children involved in activities, but seldom are seen at the event. They want others to do the coaching, etc.

Churches are having the same issues. The younger people with families are not present, and there again, comes the time that the older ones cannot carry the load.

Makes one wonder what is going to become of the world.

Just my thoughts on the subject.
