Southampton Rotary Club is about to hold its annual major fundraiser on Saturday, October 15th.
Rotary International is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and helps build goodwill and peace throughout the world. Southampton is one of 33,000 Rotary Clubs with approximately 1.2m members in more than 200 countries worldwide.
Southampton Rotary meets weekly at the Scout Hall, 39 Grey St and is involved in many projects at home and abroad.
Where do our funds come from?
We raise money through Fish Fries, Burger Flips, Annual Auction, Huron Shores Run, Annual Golf Tournament and our famous ‘Winter Draw’.
Where does our money and help go?
Here are some recent examples of where we helped locally:
  •  naming sponsor to the Jubilee Park Accessible Playground Project in Southampton,
  •  major donor to the Marine Heritage Society Peerless II Fund,
  • all the proceeds from the Annual Huron Shores Run are donated to the Southampton Hospital Foundation,
  • School Scholarship Programs at GC Huston and Saugeen District Secondary School
  • Grade 3 Dictionary Project
  • Sponsoring Students to attend ‘Me to We’ Leadership Camps, Adventures in Citizenship programs and sending teens on Seminars for ‘Tomorrow’s Leaders
  • Salvation Army Christmas Hamper Program
  • Support for the Chantry Senior Centre
  • Slave Lake Fire Appeal
  • Offer of help in aftermath of Goderich Tornado
·         .... and numerous other local causes.
We share our time and vocational talents by involvement in The Summer Company Mentoring program, assisting the Business Enterprize Centre with Economic Surveys of local businesses and providing Volunteer Drivers for the Meals on Wheels Service.
Overseas help has gone to:
  • End Polio Now’, a polio eradication program,
  • Shelter Box and Aqua Box aid for the Haiti Earthquake Disaster and in response to the Japanese Earthquake Tsunami ,
  •  Afghanistan Schools rebuilding program,
  • Third world water projects e.g. Cameroons Project,
  • Avoidable Blindness Projects in Mexico and the Caribbean.
Acknowledgement: Our work would not be possible without the dedication of the Rotary Club Members and the generous support of the people and local businesses of Saugeen Shores.
