Saturday, Oct. 15, at 9 a.m., the phones will start ringing with donations from across Midwestern Ontario for the 10th Annual CKNX Health Care Heroes Radiothon.

The Radiothon is a unique fund-raiser where donors call CKNX Radio and pledge donations for their hospital. This year, three radio stations will be broadcasting the radiothon; CKNX AM920, 101.7 The One and 94.5 The Bull.

The 16 hospital foundations participating serve the health needs of Kincardine, Walkerton, Southampton, Goderich, Wingham, Chesley, Clinton, Durham, Exeter, Hanover,  Listowel, Markdale, Mount Forest, Palmerston, Seaforth, St. Marys, and surrounding areas.

This year the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation has set a goal of $75,000 to put toward the purchase of three Dispensing Carts for dispersing medication to patients.

Each hospital foundation establishes its own target for funds to be raised and the project for which these funds will be utilized. The projects are as diverse as the communities and hospitals represented. They include basic equipment, to more advanced items such as digital imaging x-rays, CT scanners, surgical and dialysis equipment.

This annual event, created 10 years ago, has raised more than $6-million to assist in areas of need not funded by the government. For more information go to www.healthcareheroes.ca
