Visiting with Doug and Shirley MacDonald last weekend were Sheena and Bob Houghten, William, Alayna and Evan, of Sanford, Michigan. Sympathy is extended to the family of Fred Hallam whose funeral was Tuesday. Our Women's Institute branches are busy with Rose programs. Mary Anne Kukoly attended - Laughter the best medicine put on by the South Line Brant WI Branch in Walkerton Wednesday afternoon and the Bervie Branch hosted a Slow Cooker workshop that was also enjoyed by the participants. Mary Anne Kukoly visited recently with Dianne Kearns of Meaford and Sally Coyne Thursday of last week and had supper with her cousin Joyce MacEwan and son Sandy MacEwan Wednesday evening. The Bruce County Women's Institute Rally was held in Underwood Thursday. Janet Nixon, Marilyn Reid, Deanna Scott and Mary Anne Kukoly attended from Purple Grove and the guest speaker was from the Heart and Stroke. Kaila Cassels and baby, Myles Adam Cassels of Fort MacMurray, Alberta, met Myles' grandparents, Roger and Wendy Smith, at the Calgary airport and came home to surprise his uncles, Chase and Adam! Katherine and Donna Bridge hosted a baby shower last Sunday for Myles to be introduced to the neighbours . This Sunday they visited with his great-great grandmother, Myrtle Smith who will be 96 next month, of Owen Sound, and the rest of the Smith relatives. Best wishes to you, Kaila, from all your Purple Grove friends. Congratulations to the Five Star Quilters on hosting another great quilt show Friday and Saturday in Teeswater! Friday evening was the 4-H Awards Night in Ripley at the Complex and congratulations to all the members and leaders on another great year. This year, along with the Sheep, Beef, Dairy, Vet and Conservation clubs, the Curling and Square Dance Clubs also received their plaques and badges. Special guests were Amberly Keelan, Ripley Fair Ambassador, and Paul Murray, Agricultural Society President. Thanks to The Ripley Agricultural Society for continued support of Ripley 4-H Clubs, AgriCorp for 4-H member plaques, Gay Lea Teeswater for milk to go with the cookies and munchies provided by the clubs. Jim Farrell was recognized for 25 years as a 4-H leader, while Dr. Ken Bridge was recognized for 20 years as a 4-H leader. There were 30 new members receiving their first-year plaques. Welcome to 4-H!
