The Kincardine Miller Insurance Midget hockey team opened the season with a pair of wins over league rivals. The Kinucks edged out Walkerton on the road Monday night before shutting out BCH at the Tiverton Arena Wednesday. Monday night, Mitch Dickson scored the game-winning goal in the dying minutes to lift Kincardine to a 4-3 victory. Cody Bowes scored back-to-back goals early in the first period to give the Kinucks a 2-0 lead, but Walkerton fought back and tied the game in the second period. Walkerton then scored with the man-advantage to go up 3-2, but Gerrit Satosek evened the score before Dickson snapped a wrister off the crossbar and in for the winner. It came with Kincardine on the powerplay. Wednesday night, Dickson was again the difference. He scored three pretty goals, while Spencer Montgomery posted the shutout in goal as Kincardine defeated BCH 4-0 in Tiverton. Colten Hendrie had the other Kincardine goal when his slap shot from the point hit the top right hand corner to make it 3-0 early in the third. Dickson completed his hat-trick and sealed the contest with a hard wrister from the top of the circles late in the game. Kincardine was in Collingwood on the weekend for a tournament. The Midgets won the opening game by a 3-1 score over the hosts. They were scheduled to play Bracebridge Friday night and had Saturday games against Lincoln and Thorold. Kincardine will host the Archie MacMillan Memorial Midget hockey tournament next weekend (Oct. 28-30). Kincardine will open the tournament with an 8 p.m. Friday night game against East Lambton, then face Walkerton at 9:20 a.m. Saturday. The nine-team tournament will continue all weekend, with the championship game set for Sunday at 4 p.m. |
