The Winterhawks proved themselves to be unwelcome
guests as they they travelled to Ripley on Saturday
night and handed the Wolves a 7-2 defeat.

Both teams came out strong, trading chances early with
Hawks' goalie Josh Carolan and Ripley netminder Kurt
Edwards making nice saves to keep the game scoreless.

The 'Hawks got on the board when James McHaig scored
off a feed from Jason Hutchinson to give the 'Hawks
a 1-0 lead with just over four minutes remaining in the
1st period.

It proved to open the floodgates as the 'Hawks struck two
more times in the 1st, including a beautiful wraparound
shorthanded goal by Ryan Dudgeon as he and line-mate
Darryl McKinnon worked their magic all night long.
Brendon Haefling capped off the scoring by fire a shot
past Edwards with 37 seconds left in the 1st period to
send the 'Hawks to the intermission with a 3-0 lead.

The 'Hawks didn't let up in the 2nd period as captain Greg
Thede blasted a shot from the point past Edwards for
a powerplay goal to take a 4-0 lead just 4:54 into the 2nd.

The Wolves found themselves in more penalty trouble as
they went down two men halfway through the period and
the 'Hawks took full advantage as Matt Turcotte finished
off a nifty tic-tac-toe passing play with Dudgeon and
McKinnon to make it 5-0 for Saugeen Shores.

Ripley's Nick Locking and Mark Stanley would respond
with goals in the last half of the 2nd period to make it a
5-2 game after 40 minutes.

The 'Hawks made amends for letting Ripley back in the
game by taking a 6-2 lead just 1:23 into the 3rd as
newcomer Greg Virgo notched his first goal as a 'Hawk.
Virgo then set up line-mate Blake Underwood to cap off
the scoring, giving the 'Hawks a 7-2 victory over Ripley.

Josh Carolan made 25 saves in goal for the 'Hawks
and was backed up for the second straight night by
 Kyle Underwood.

The Winterhawks travel to Walkerton next to take on the
Capitals on Saturday Nov. 5th at 6:30pm. The next home
game is Saturday November 12th against the Ripley
Wolves. Game time is 8:30pm at The Plex.
