Saugeen Shores is about to have a wind turbine in its front yard. The Building Department for the Town of Saugeen Shores has received a building permit application from the CAW for a wind turbine to be located at their site at 115 Shipley Avenue.
The CAW Family Education Centre is moving forward with the installation
of the turbine and it does not have to comply with the Provincial 550 metre
setback set out in the Green Energy Act because the approval had been
given prior to the 2009 Renewable Energy
Approval Regulation. The proposed turbine is designated
as an Enercon E48, with a hub height of 76 metres (249 ft.). The turbine
has a generating output capacity of 800 kilowatts. Saugeen Shores Council has made known its objection to the provincial Green Energy Act which removed wind turbine/energy source approvals from municipalities.
Deputy Mayor Luke Charbonneau In addition, Deputy Mayor Luke Charbonneau, who will be living within 300 metres of the proposed turbine, says that he will have to wait and see what the affects, if any, are. "We live between the turbine and the lake so we'll have to see what the noise level will be."

Vice-Deputy Mayor Doug Gowanlock Vice Deputy Mayor Doug Gowanlock expressed his disappointment with the CAW's decision to move forward with the installation given the many concerns over health issues that have been raised in the area. Based on the response from the Ministry of the Environment and provided the pertinent documentation and fees are submitted, it would appear that the Building Department will be required to issue a building permit for the turbine.
