Rotary Clubs present donation to Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation

The Rotary Huron Shore Run 2011 celebrated 23 years of community support for the local Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation and, this year, saw the worst weather on record for the run.

Winds, rain, thunder and lightening, along with a four-house power outage ... the participants braved it all to continue with the event and raise funds for the hospital.

Of the monies raised, 10 per cent (10%) is donated to the Saugeen Track & Field Club (STFC) and 10 per cent (10%) to each Rotary Club, Southampton and Port Elgin with the balance to the Hospital.  Both Rotary Clubs however, donated their portions $3,200 back to the Hospital so that it received 90 per cent (90%) or $11,200 of the proceeds.

Plans have already begun for the 2012 run that will be held on June 2nd, with a focus on fun.  "Our mission," says Van Bastelaar,  "is to raise money but our vision is to have fund doing it."
