I don’t take issue with the cancellation of this act. (Long Gun Registration)  But why would the government destroy the records?

They argue that this will ensure none of the provinces can use the records if they want to have a provincial Long-Gun Registry Act.   What a waste of valuable intelligence information for the police!

Ask any cop on the beat who is responding to a residence where violence is taking place or suspected.  Would the cop want to know if the inhabitants have long-guns?  You bet!

So give it a little more thought government of the day.  The cop on the beat will thank you for it!

Dear Editor,

A 38 yr old male on the Saugeen First Nation was charged with assault, yet you do not use the person's name to identify who this is.

I have read your on line newspaper for a couple of years now and you are always willing to put names to charges (especially the white male).  These charges with names usually bring shame and hardship to these individuals.  But Canadians with Aboriginal Descent you seem not able to get an identification.

I have a major problem with these columns for several reasons....here a couple.

1.  Do you ever run a column if the individual was found INNOCENT?

2.  Are you protecting minority groups from this kind of scrutiny by not putting there names?

If you are an under cover agent for the PCP (Politically Correct Police) let me know and I will move back to the Kincardine Independent where at least I will get a free word puzzle with all the PC BS they print!

Thank you,

Editor's Reply:  You will notice that all police reports are prefaced with an insignia of the force, i.e. OPP or a local force such as Saugeen Shores.

We do not have license to change official police reports and, in fact, print them exactly as we receive them.  Some detachments opt to use names of individuals charged with an offense, others do not.  We have no control over this.

As far as "protecting minority groups",  we are in the local news business and, as such, strive to be informative, impartial, objective and non-racial.

If, as you state, the only reason for  "... moving back to the XXXXXXXX paper..."  is a 'free crossword', please note the following ... when reading the Kincardine/Saugeen/Walkerton publications ...
