It was the best effort of the season, but it still wasn’t enough.

The Walkerton Capitals put all they had into Friday night's game, but have nothing to show for it. On home ice, the Caps were shut out, 4-0, by the Elora Rocks, and remain winless after six regular season games in WOAA Senior AA hockey action.

Brock Zinken scored once in each period for Elora, while Fraser Young rounded out the scoring. Zinken broke a scoreless draw with 1:10 left in the first period, then added a powerplay goal in the second, completing the scoring with a short-handed goal late in the third. Young’s second-period tally was also a powerplay marker.

Walkerton goaltender Jason Hamilton kept his teammates in this game at times, but it was big Kyle Ruhl who picked up the shutout for Elora.

More than 100 minutes in penalties were handed out in this game.

Despite having only 13 skaters, Walkerton played by far its most physical game of the season. Nathan Perrott even dropped the gloves for his first career WOAA fight. But that third-period fight was about all the Caps won.

It should make for an interesting match-up Saturday night. These teams will meet again, only this time in Elora.

Walkerton's next home game is Saturday, Nov. 5, when the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks come to town for a 6:30 p.m. start.
