Construction numbers
on the upswing locally

Construction figures surged in September, as indicated in building reports from Kincardine and Huron-Kinloss.

In Kincardine, there were 33 building permits issued last month, with a total construction value of $4.092-million, compared to 28 permits in August, with a value of $810,900.

In September, there were five permits for new homes, plus a major permit, valued at $2.5-million, for an apartment building.

However, Kincardine's figures are trailing the year-to-date numbers from last year, with 202 permits at a total of $16.5-million, compared to 220 permits at a total of $22.5- million in 2010.

Meanwhile, in Huron-Kinloss, there were 16 permits issued, with a construction value of almost $2.4-million. That includes three permits for new homes, with a total value of $1.07-million, plus new farm buildings and additions with a value of $1-million.

While the number of permits is down from August, when 26 were issued, the construction value is higher - in August, it was $2.34-million.

To date, the township is running behind 2010 figures, with 132 permits and a total construction value of $12-million, compared to last year when there were 160 permits issued with a value of $18.8-million.
