I am amazed that something like this happens and there is so little reporting about the event.  I always thought good reporting answers who, what, when, where and why.  Our local radio station said the truck was southbound on Highway 21...then why was it seemingly pulling out of Home Hardware parking lot. And still there is no mention at this time on the condition of the victim.  This is a small town and people need and want to know the story.  There is no need to sensationalize like the Toronto Star but some information should be made public.

Editor:  This was an older lady (Who) struck by a vehicle (What) on Saturday, Nov. 5 (When) in front of Home Hardware on Hwy 21 (Where) ....  investigation was on-going at the time of reporting (Why).  In addition, we do not release the name of a victim without family and police support which was not forthcoming until the investigation is completed.

The victim was air-lifted to London (as stated, including her known injuries, in the article ) where she remains at this time.  You state that "people in a small town want to know the whole story" and we reported all 'pertinent' information as known to date.   "To sensationalize" it, would have been to report the victim's name without family/police approval.  We did not do this though, despite knowing who it is.  As you know, Saugeen Times also had the only known photos except for official police photos.

Short of photographing someone laying on the road, we feel certain that we did our job and the 'public' knows what we know ... what else would you like to know?
