The Ripley-Huron Community School girls soccer team won the championship banner at the Jim Crouchman Memorial Southwest Regional tournament held Oct. 25 in Lucknow. The Kincardine Township-Tiverton Public School girls team was runner-up. Meanwhile, Kincardine's Huron Heights Public School boys team brought home the runner-up banner, with KTTPS winning the championship. The Huron Heights boys arrived in Lucknow as the sun made its appearance and with frost on the grass, prepared to meet its first opponent - Hillcrest from Teeswater. Huron Heights' goalie had his most restful game of the tournament as he handled the ball only once. Gavin Reardon led the team with a hat-trick and Ethan Long and Sam Thompson contributed a goal each, giving the Huron Heights Hawks a 5-0 win. In the second game, the boys saw the pace and intensity of play increase 100 per cent as Ripley tested the Huron Heights defence and goalie. Reardon and Long scored for the Hawks. The boys won a hard-fought battle, 2-1. Next, they faced a small but fast group of boys from Lucknow. The Hawks went to work using their strong passing skills, and the defensive unit kept the ball cleared out of the Huron Heights zone, allowing the Hawks to post a 3-1 win. Goals were scored by Tripathi, Long and Thompson. And then it started to rain! The Hawks knew they would have a tough match against KTTPS based on the earlier exhibition game. Unfortunately, Huron Heights could not get the ball past the KTTPS goalie more than once and ended up with a 2-1 loss in an awesome, nail-biting match. The lone goal was scored by Long.

Based on the results, KTTPS and Huron Heights had the
same three-and-one record. In a head-to-head match-up, KTTPS was
awarded the championship banner and the Hawks brought home the
runner-up banner. Coaches Rick Van Pinxteren and Cathie Weatherall are very proud of the team effort in all the Huron Heights players. Scrolling stops when you move your mouse inside the scroll area. You can click on the ads for more
