It was a tough loss on the weekend for the Ripley Wolves as the Elora Rocks managed to sneak out of Ripley with a 3-2 shoot-out win Friday night. It is always a close, entertaining game when these two teams meet up and Friday night’s game was no exception.

After a scoreless first period, Ripley opened up the scoring halfway through the second when Mark Stanley slipped one past the Elora goalie, with Brock Lowry picking up the only assist. The back-and-forth action continued until Elora managed to get a quick couple of goals at the end of the second period to take a 2-1 lead to the dressing room.

Ripley came out flying in the third, determined to get the win for the hometown fans. It was Travis VanGaver who brought them to their feet, tying the game with a nice powerplay goal eight minutes into the third with Jeremy McQuillin and Nick Locking picking up the assists.

The tight-checking game continued with neither team able to get that all-important, go-ahead goal before the buzzer sounded.

Overtime solved nothing and Elora picked up the win when Brock Zinken managed to score the winner during the shoot-out. Although he took the loss, I should point out that Ripley goalie Kurt Edwards played a terrific game, stopping 53 of 55 Elora shots.

The Wolves have a couple of tough games on tap this weekend. First up Friday night the Durham Thundercats will visit Ripley, then Saturday the boys head north to take on the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks in Port Elgin, both games are 8:30 p.m. starts.

A couple of wins this weekend could make things interesting in the standings as both Saugeen Shores and Durham are only a few points ahead of Ripley in the standings. I hope to see you out to catch some great local Senior A hockey!
