Kincardine has a new interim treasurer.

Steve Soychak was introduced to Kincardine council at the meeting last night (Nov. 2). He officially starts his job today (Nov. 3).

A resident of Duntroon, south of Collingwood, Soychak is an accountant and was working as the chief financial officer and chief information officer at the Collingwood Hospital.

"I held executive roles working in health care and I had oversight for all accounting functions and information technology functions," he said.

This is his first foray into municipal work and he is looking forward to the experience.

"I'm excited to be here," he said. "I've met some of the staff and I feel fortunate to be working here."

He now wants to meet all members of council and get to know them better.

Among his first orders of business will be to identify priorities in the financial department, meet some urgent deadlines, and get several reports finalized.

Soychak is married with three children and enjoys playing hockey, skiing and being outdoors.

Former treasurer Brenda French is now the supervisor of revenue services and taxation.

As for a new chief administrative officer (CAO), councillor Kenneth Craig said last night that the selection committee has interviewed one candidate for the job, and that interview went well. The remaining two candidates will be interviewed Nov. 12.
