The Kincardine Miller Insurance Midgets went undefeated on home ice over the weekend to claim the Archie McMillan Memorial Midget rep. hockey tournament. A short-handed Kinucks team clinched the tournament championship with a 2-1 win over Saugeen Shores Sunday afternoon at the Davidson Centre. Gerrit Satosek and Jordan Bell capped off great weekend performances by each scoring a goal in this contest. Kincardine played without three of its top forwards, and each player stepped up to ensure a win on home ice. Kincardine got the start it needed in this tournament – the Kinucks scored on the second shift of the opening game Friday night. Kincardine added a goal in the second period and one more in the third to shut out East Lambton 3-0. Satosek had a pair of goals in this one, while Bell added a single tally. Spencer Montgomery posted the shut-out between the pipes, his second of the season. Saturday morning, the Midgets skated to a 4-1 win over WOAA rival Walkerton. Phil Bernath scored twice in this contest, while Mitch Dickson and David McFarlan each scored in the win, which guaranteed Kincardine a spot in the 'A' Division. Saturday evening, Montgomery again stopped every shot sent his way as Kincardine moved on to the championship game with a narrow 1-0 win over Mitchell. Kincardine will be on the road Thursday night to take on Wingham. Sunday, Goderich will be at the Davidson Centre for a 7:30 p.m. start. The coaching staff is hoping to build off the weekend victory leading into the Regional Silver Stick tournament, which opens in Wingham Nov. 20.
