Show thanks to our veterans by wearing a poppy!

To the Editor:

While I was out and about this last week, I have been totally shocked and dismayed at the number of merchants and staff who are NOT wearing poppies.

We have only 11 days a year to show our thanks to veterans past and present and yet, these business owners and their staff cannot see fit to wear a poppy in remembrance?

What stunned me the most was going into a financial institution in downtown Kincardine. There are signs posted on the doors stating that in honour of Remembrance Day the bank would be closed. Yet, not one of the employees out front or in the offices was wearing a poppy.

Have we really become so complacent as a society that, for 11 short days, we cannot wear a small red flower in honour of the freedoms we have and enjoy?

I just wondered if anyone else has noticed this.

Yours truly,

Sandra Benbow,
Member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 440, Ripley
