Big win for KDSS Knights boys hockey team in opener

The Knights were prepared, and it showed.

After hosting a pre-season tournament, then waxing Walkerton District in an exhibition game Friday, Kincardine District Secondary School opened the BAA boys hockey season with a convincing 6-2 win over the Sacred Heart Crusaders Monday.

Grade 9 defenceman Garrett McFadden scored twice in his BAA debut, while fifth-year Jacob Siekierski had three assists in the contest. Riley Cook had a goal and an assist for KDSS, while other goals were scored by Ryker Killins, Mitch Dickson and Paul Lamont. Keegan McLelland, Jory Norman and Mike Osadca each chipped in with an assist.

Cody Lang scored a second period goal for the visiting Crusaders, the defending BAA champs. Lang added his second of the game with four minutes left, from Garrett Weigle.

Easton Battler got the win in goal for KDSS, coming off a 7-2 win against WDSS Friday afternoon.

Sacred Heart and Kincardine will play a rematch next Thursday (Nov. 24) in Walkerton. Both schools play in the BAA South with WDSS and the John Diefenbaker Secondary School Trojans of Hanover.
