The two awards were presented and $4,000  was presented to the Bruce Grey United Way Winter Warmth Program.

In collaboration with the Worker's Health and Safety Centre (WH&SC) and local Centre staff representative, Kim Marshall, the Labour Council recognized Paul Johnstone as the recipient of the WH&SC Activist Award of the Year.

Johnstone's lifelong history as a Union and Social Justice Activist in addition to his leadership within OPSEU and in the 'Save the Jails' campaign and his effective campaign as the NDP candidate for Bruce-Grey Owen Sound, made him the unanimous choice by the Labour Council.

The Labour Council Person of the Year is an award exclusive to the Grey-Bruce Labour Council that has a four year history and, this year, the award was presented to Brad Drake of UFCW.

Drake is an activist in his Union, the founder of 'Union Rocks' and is on staff with the Bruce Grey United Way. He was a unanimous choice and is also leading the way to youth engagement in the Labour and Social Justice Movement.

The Grey-Bruce Labour Council and Bruce Grey United Way have also been aligned in a more than 50 year association at the national level and have several Union Affiliates that meet the Labour Council's challenge to contribute $500 or more to the winter warmth campaign.

This year is no exception as  OPSEU 275, OPSEU 224, CAW 1106, OSSTF D7, OECTA of Bruce Grey and the Society of Energy Professionals will all make a difference to local communities by aiding in keeping families warm during the upcoming winter months with donations.
