The Walkerton Capitals were swept by Shallow Lake in a home-and-home weekend series in WOAA Senior AA hockey action. The Crushers skated to 6-3 wins Friday night at home and Saturday evening in Walkerton. Friday night in Shallow Lake, these teams combined for more than 100 minutes in penalties, with the majority handed out after a late-game brawl. A lovely goal by Brady Houston tied the game in the second frame after Tim Michi had made it 1-0 on a first-period powerplay. Former Walkerton Hawk Greg Wardell scored on a shorthanded breakaway to make it 2-1 Crushers, but the Capitals answered back right away when Andy Cline scored from Curt Robinson. Kevin Beirnes made it 3-2 early in the third period with Walkerton playing shorthanded. The Crushers added two more powerplay goals from Chris Robertson and Bill Phillip before Walkerton replied on a powerplay of its own. Tim Dwinnell scored an unassisted goal to make it 5-3. Chad Jones scored with three minutes to play to put this game out of reach. Eight players were ejected with fighting majors after a skirmish behind the Walkerton net erupted with 28 seconds remaining. The next night in Walkerton, the Crushers scored twice in an empty net to clinch a 6-3 win on the road. Shallow Lake led 2-1 after the first period, and stretched that lead to 4-1 after two. Walkerton scored two quick goals to come within a goal, but Shallow Lake finished the job for the weekend sweep. Ian Barnard, Christian Nagle and Wardell each put a puck past Jason Hamilton. Barnard scored his second of the night into an empty net to make it 5-3 and Chris King made it 6-3 with Jason Hamilton still on the bench for an extra attacker.
