The president and chief executive officer (CEO) of the South Bruce Grey Health Centre has resigned.

Paul Davies tendered his resignation at the health centre board of directors meeting Wednesday night (Nov. 23) in Chesley, and it was accepted by the board. He will step down March 31, 2012.

The South Bruce Grey Health Centre includes hospitals in Kincardine, Walkerton, Durham and Chesley.

According to a press release from the hospital board, in his nine years with the health centre, Davies has been dedicated to ensuring the financial stability of the organization while maintaining programs and services.

He has developed invaluable partnerships with community groups and other health care providers in the region to improve access and quality of care in Grey and Bruce counties.

Under his leadership, the health centre has launched new programs, such as the Restorative Care Program at the Chesley site, secured the redevelopment of the Kincardine site, and worked in collaboration with the Brockton and Area Family Health Team to build new clinic space at the Durham and Walkerton sites.

The board states in the press release that it wishes Davies all the best as he embarks on a new chapter in his life. The recruitment process for a new president and CEO will begin immediately.

In the past two weeks, Davies and the hospital board have come under fire from the Kincardine Physicians Group for introducing poor food quality to the Kincardine hospital, and allowing parking gates to interfere with entrance to the emergency room at the hospital.

The doctors have requested the hospital board deal with these issues immediately.
