Dear Editor, I encourage people to read a Toronto Star article by Tyler Hamilton, click here, which speaks about the fact that Samsung hasn't received 'one cent' from Ontario. Instead the Korean company is required to deliver $7-billion in investment to Ontario. Part of the commitment will result in the development of 2,000 megawatts (MW) of wind power. Friends of Wind Ontario is dedicated to promoting wind, not wind developers or wind turbine manufacturers. We believe that Ontario's wind energy is an underdeveloped resource that can help Ontario reduce its carbon footprint and its dependence on out-of-province fuel sources. We believe that wind can become the second cash crop for many farms – and their neighbours. Pick up a copy of "Power Shift: the hope and drama of monumental wind power" by Donald A. Pettit and learn how the construction of Bear Mountain Wind Park in B.C. is beyond pure economics. The members of Peace Energy Co-operative manifest this in their name. Ontario is joining a global movement that is seeing utilities and governments recognize that wind energy is a smart choice for both electricity systems and electricity customers. European countries are continuing their very successful feed-in tariff programs. The Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) includes incentives and regulations for improved grid integration technology of wind turbines as well as stricter obligations for grid operators when it comes to integrating wind power in Germany. The German Wind Energie
Association (BWE) sees a potential of 45,000 MW wind capacity on-shore
and an electricity generation of about 110 billion kWh/a by The German feed-in law also offers some special incentives for the repowering of wind turbines. Replacing old-fashioned wind turbines from the early days of wind energy with new powerful machines of the multi-mega-class (up to six MW) leads to more efficient exploitation of sites, and at the same time reduces the number of wind turbines.

I can assure you, based on my knowledge of the thousands of landowner family members who have wind turbines
on their property, that if you maintain a good attitude toward wind
turbines, you'll sleep as well at night as they do. And they live much
closer to their turbines than you will to your neighbour's turbine. I can probably introduce you to a few of these “host” landowners if you want their personal experience.
