To the Editor: I totally agree with the complaint about the "free" flu shot clinic at the Kincardine Community Medical Clinic Nov. 18. We are strongly urged to get the flu shot, and because for whatever reason we could not make the other flu clinics, we had to pay the parking fee! Hardly seems fair to us! The gates were open for the other flu clinics but for some reason, they were working the evening that the Public Health ran the flu clinic. It was impossible to even think one could get parked, in, needled, wait, out, and gone within the 30 minutes! And that was without the long line of people who attended the clinic! I also heard complaints that Public Health would not be doing a flu clinic at the medical clinic again, if everyone has to pay the parking! (South Bruce Grey Health Centre president and CEO) Paul Davies' comment: "That is the policy. Sorry for the inconvenience," sounds like he does not care one bit about us! Can you figure out the reason for the revenue to be down for the parking? Think about it. More people are getting a ride up, through the gates, dropped off, then the patients call when they are done. All you have to do is watch and this is what you'll see! A lot of people cannot conduct their business in less than 30 minutes, register, wait for the appointment, attend the appointment, X-ray, lab work, or whatever else, then exit! Concerning the gates and an emergency situation to reach ER, one should drive through the gates, and not be concerned - what is more important, repair the broken parking gate arm or lose a patient? That is about what Paul Davies is saying - "you do what it takes" - well, drive through and get the help that is needed. The gate can be replaced, while a life cannot! Concerning the voice monitoring system, a waste of time! By the time a button is pushed, the call is answered, the directions are given, then followed, one could be more critical than upon arrival!

Hopefully, if the Public Health nurses decide they need a clinic to catch the people who have not received their flu shot another year, they will take the clinic elsewhere. Obviously, it does not matter whether everyone attends or not, all the hospital board is interested in is the money for the parking! The gates are in the wrong place - how does one get to ER in a hurry? All space should be used for parking and not wasted! With handicapped and close parking spaces at a premium, things could be changed to allow more close parking. It does not require a four-lane drive-through to the medical clinic. There are a lot of issues that need dealing with concerning the hospital, medical clinic, parking and those gates! Joan Hartwick Scrolling stops when you move your mouse inside the scroll area.
