Saugeen Shores Town Council was recently presented with a resolution initiated by Huron County regarding fire inspections of agricultural buildings.

"The Fire Marshall's Office [located in Toronto] is asking that rural fire departments do fire inspections on agricultural buildings such as barns and large sheds," said Saugeen Shores Fire Chief, Phil Eagleson.  "The thought behind it, I suspect, is that rural areas hold parties, dances and 'stag and doe' events in barns."

"This is hard to believe," said Vice-Deputy Mayor, Doug Gowanlock.  "We have had barn-raisings in the country for a hundred years where neighbours come together to build a barn and then stay afterwards to celebrate with a party in the barn.  I certainly think we should support Huron County in this resolution."
