At the recent Special Olympics tournament held in Port Elgin, the C side, three-team round robin saw some intense competition. At the end of the day, the Kincardine rink of Rosi Laidler, Kelly Simpson and Jen McCullough and Jeffery Van de Klippe finished in top spot with two wins 2-1 against Owen Sound and 6-3 over Port Elgin.
Second place was the Owen Sound team with one win 4-3 over Port Elgin. The Owen Sound Team consisted of Chris Stewart, Susan Corbett, Trevor Harris and Casey Smytelo.
In third, after a great effort, was the Port Elgin team consisting of Jeremy Kranenburg, Deanna McGillivray, Terri Johnston and Reta McCourt.
On the B side, in a four-team round robin, finishing the day with three strong wins was the Vanastra team. The team, consisting of Amanda Craig, Brad Shortreed, Ryan Jewitt, Paul Consitt and Danielle Munroe, won 6-5, 4-2, and 4-2 against Kincardine, Owen Sound and Port Elgin respectively.
Alhough the clear winners of the day, they are unable to attend the next round in Welland and therefore the 2nd place Port Elgin team will attend on January 12. The Port Elgin team was comprised of Wayne Morton, Jason Scott, Katie Kranenburg and Sheila Lawrie. In 3rd was Kincardine and 4th place was Owen Sound.
It was an excellent day of fun, friendship and fine curling. Some very impressive performances were noted by all participants.
