It was a 'Kodak moment' for members of Community Living of Kincardine and District, their families and staff, Sunday afternoon at the Davidson Centre.

Not only were they enjoying their annual community Christmas party, they were also having portraits taken, compliments of Marijke Hennink of Kincardine.

Smiling behind the camera, Hennink was taking photographs as part of the Help-Portrait program. This global movement encourages photographers to use their time, gear and expertise to give back to those in need.

The idea is to find someone in need, take his portrait, print the picture and deliver it to him..

Founded by celebrity photographer Jeremy Cowart, this is the third year for Help-Portrait which is being done in 56 countries, at 1,062 locations, with 12,654 volunteers, 10,574 photographers, and a total of 101,596 portraits given.

The concept is for photographers to give the pictures, not take them. The photos are not for their portfolios or websites or for sale. This is a chance to give a family something they may have never had before - a portrait together.

That's exactly why Hennink got involved - to take photos of people, print them and deliver them, free of charge.

"It's a great way to give back to the community," she says.

And from the smiles on the faces of the people at Community Living, it was the perfect gift.
