Walkerton badly wanted a win on the weekend, but had to settle for a single point in WOAA Senior AA hockey action. The Shelburne Muskies got a fortuitous bounce-in late in overtime to snatch a 3-2 win at the Walkerton Community Centre Friday night. It was a heartbreaker for the Capitals who had lost eight straight games heading into Friday night’s match with the Muskies. Unlike last weekend, the team played with a full bench, and it showed. The Caps battled back to force overtime, and got another huge performance from goaltender Jason Hamilton. Mike Spearing gave the visitors an early lead when Chris Vagenas found him alone in front of Hamilton. Tristan Fairbarn made it 2-0 in the second, but Brandon Fraser cut the lead in half before the second break, scoring from Jarris Ireland with 1:18 left in the middle stanza. Fraser tied the game in the third when he picked off an errant pass and scored with 9:39 remaining. Hamilton made sure this one went to overtime with some timely goaltending as the Caps killed off three minor penalties in the final eight minutes of regulation time. When it looked as if this game was headed for a shoot-out, a centring pass off the stick of Tyler Horan bounced off a skate and ended up in the back of the net for the game winner.

Walkerton
will have until Dec. 30 to get over this one. The Mapleton-Minto 81s
will be in town for an 8:30 p.m. start that night.
The Capitals organization wishes a Happy Holiday Season to all Walkerton fans, sponsors and supporters. A new outlook in 2012 will be essential if the Caps are to entertain any thoughts of qualifying for the WOAA Senior AA playoffs. Scrolling stops when you move your mouse inside the scroll area.
