| Last weekend was one the Walkerton Capitals would like to forget.
The Caps were crushed in a pair of road games in WOAA Senior A action, losing 12-0 Friday night and 8-2 Saturday. Friday night in Port Elgin, the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks remained undefeated on the season with a 12-0 laugher. The Winterhawks took a 5-0 first period lead, and never looked back. Greg Virgo and Blake Underwood each had hat-tricks for Saugeen Shores. Saturday night, Walkerton put forth a better effort, but at the end of the day could not overcome a short bench. The Capitals had just 10 skaters dressed for this one, and fell behind 3-0 in the first period. Darrin MacDonald, Kyle Wreford and Nick Locking had first-period goals for Ripley. The Wolves added four second-period goals, three of them on man advantages. Walkerton got one back, and the teams traded third-period goals for an 8-2 final. Locking had two goals, while Corey McCrae, Mark Stanley, Chad Colling and Travis VanGaver each scored once for the Wolves. Tim Dwinnell and Curtis Robinson replied for Walkerton. Adam Corbett assisted on both markers. Despite the scores, goaltender Jason Hamilton was great in both of these games, particularly against the Winterhawks. Walkerton faced the Shelburne Muskies last night (Dec. 9) in its final game before a three-week break over the holiday season.
