What a great time of the year when you can enjoy all the Christmas lights. Thank you to the various villages and towns for the effort they put into making our life a little brighter (being a tad prejudiced, I think Ripley's lights are the nicest). It is a great way to spend an evening driving around town and appreciating all the residences that have their Christmas decorations up.

It is also a great time to enjoy all the catered meals and potluck dinners that are seasonal. And then, of course, there are all the sweets and Christmas cakes that have to be sampled. It is good that in Ripley and Kincardine there are indoor spaces that we can walk off some of the extra calories. Don't forget that in January, the VON SMART exercise program will be starting up again. Hint, hint, nudge, nudge!

Many from the Grove enjoyed the concert put on by the Kincardine Community Singers this weekend. It was great.

The Retirement Home residents and the folks at the Nursing Homes appreciate the various ministers who bring a service to them on Sunday afternoon. RVilla had a very successful Family Christmas Party Friday.

The Dore and McInnes families gathered at the home of Dianne and Allan Gottschalk in Shakespeare recently for their Christmas gathering. Largaret and Karen from here were able to attend.

It is nice to have some of our College and University students home for the holidays. Brandon Finnie is home from Fanshawe College.

June Elliott, Joyce Farrell and Shirley MacDonald had lunch on Wednesday at the home of Mary Anne Kukoly. Joyce McEwan and Sandy McEwan had supper at Mary Anne's on Saturday evening.

We're all looking forward to the Christmas gathering at Purple Grove Friday evening. It starts at 6:45 p.m. - hope to see you there.

Purple Grove Women's Institute December meeting

The December meeting of the Purple Grove Women's Institute began at I.C. Greenhouses and everyone appreciated all the home decor that was displayed and all the wonderful home and gift ideas. From there, we went to Fran Farrell's home and continued with the meeting.

Marilyn Reid read the Scripture and an interesting article about Christmas. An offering was taken for the 'Sleeping Children Around the World' charity. The roll call was answered by donations to the Ripley Hamper drive. Also discussed was continuing to donate to local charities - this year, cheques will be sent to the Kincardine Food Hamper, and the Women's House Serving Bruce and Grey.

Joyce Farrell and Mary Anne Kukoly reported on the Lions catering in November. They thanked all who donated for that evening. Mary Anne also handed out invitations for the Christmas Party at Purple Grove, Friday, Dec. 16t It will start at 6:45 p.m.

Convener Janet Nixon gave some fun readings on the Christmas theme. She also had some great prizes to hand out. The meeting ended with a delicious lunch provided by Largaret McInnes and Deanna Scott.

President Cheryl thanked all who participated in the meeting and reminded us about the January meeting that will be held the second Wednesday - not the first Wednesday as usual.

The meeting closed with the singing of “O Canada.”
