The Saugeen County Chorus and Orchestra Grey Bruce will present Handel’s "Messiah" in their 13th anniversary performance Saturday, Dec. 17, at 8 p.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church, Kincardine. This inspiring musical event has become a favourite Christmas tradition for many in Grey, Bruce and Huron counties. It is an annual fund-raising event for the Kincardine Summer Music Festival. The chorus and orchestra feature performers from Kincardine, Goderich, Port Elgin and surrounding Grey-Bruce and Huron counties. Joining them are members of the Georgian Bay Symphony Orchestra and professional musicians from Kitchener and Montreal. Guest conductor is Richard Mascall, composer and conductor of the Georgian Bay Symphony Youth Orchestra, is back with the ensemble this year. Featured soloists include: Meghan De Jager, soprano, a Goderich native, who has studied music in many forms since the age of five. Beginning her musical training in piano, Meghan started travelling to Port Elgin for voice lessons from Jeanette Steeves. She participated in the Kiwanis and Rotary Music Festivals, both at the local and provincial levels. Meghan also sang with the A Cappella Chamber Choir of Port Elgin for five years. Currently studying voice under renowned soprano Leslie Fagan at Wilfrid Laurier University, Meghan hopes to pursue a career in voice performance. Jennifer Carey Hunter, alto, originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, she now lives in Kincardine with her husband, Jason, and their three children, Maya, Serena and Gabriel. She received her Bachelor’s of Music degree from Oberlin Conservatory of Music and her Master’s degrees in Vocal Performance and Vocal Pedagogy from New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. Jennifer was a regular soloist at Boston University’s Marsh Chapel and Church of Our Saviour in Brookline, Massachusetts, and a member of the National Spiritual Ensemble. She was a featured soloist for Boston’s Black Nativity under the direction of John Ross as well as a soprano soloist for the Cantata Singers Chamber Series under the direction of Kayo Iwama.. Jager. His music studies started at an early age in his hometown of Stratford. He was a member of the Stratford Boys Choir, and continues to take voice lessons from Earl Clark of Stratford. After university, De Jager moved to Goderich and joined the Harbouraires. He released a CD of sacred music in 2000 entitled, “To Whom Shall We Go?”. He is presently a tenor in the A Cappella Chamber Choir of Port Elgin, under the leadership of Jeanette Steeves. John Low, bass, a Kincardine resident, and accompanist with the Kincardine Community Singers. He is a member of the A Cappella Chamber Choir of Port Elgin, and being part of the Saugeen County Chorus' "Messiah" performance is always one of his Advent highlights. “May your Christmas be filled with peace, joy and music!”

Trumpet solo by AL MULLIN, a trumpet player, music educator and conductor who for more than 25 years taught instrumental music for the Avon Maitland District School Board at Goderich District Collegiate and Central Huron Secondary School. For many years, he worked in the Grey/Bruce/Huron area as leader of the Lighthouse Swing Band. Since his retirement from teaching in 2000, he has travelled the world, playing in show bands, dance bands and jazz with the major cruise ship companies.
