Winterhawks earned a pair of weekend wins to keep unbeaten streak alive

Winterhawks 5 Shallow Lake Crushers 2

The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks kept their unbeaten streak alive last weekend when they took to the road and beat the Shallow Lake Crushers 5-2 in WOAA Senior hockey action.

Shane Bainbridge got the first-place Winterhawks on the board less than a minute into the game with assists going to Nick Quaid and Darryl McKinnon. 

A minute and a half later, Shawn Walker put the Hawks up by a pair with the help of Curtis Johnston and Jeff Young.

Chris Robertson narrowed the margin to one for the Crushers when he scored an unassisted marker.

Trevor Smith put the Hawks up 3-1 late in the first with assists going to Steve Shields and Jason Hutchinson.

Walker scored his second of the game in the second frame with assists to Quaid and Johnston.

Blake Underwood put the Winterhawks up 5-1 in the third but Ian Barnard responded for the Crushers to make it a 5-2 final.

Hawks soar over Lancers

Winterhawks 8 Lucknow Lancers 2

The North Division leading Winterhawks ran their unbeaten streak to 16-0 with an 8-2 win over the Lucknow Lancers on Saturday.

 

Bryan Kazarian scored a pair and assisted on another while Darryl McKinnon had a four-point night with a goal and three assists as the Winterhawks rolled over the Lancers in convincing fashion.

 

The Winterhawks also got goals from Craig Johnston, Curtis Johnston, Jeff Young and Shawn Walker. McKinnon's goal, the sixth of the night, chased starting goaltender Ben Dorscht in the third period.

 

Andrew Smith got the win between the pipes with Kenny Stanley and Brad Burton scoring for Lucknow.

The Hawks next see action on Friday, December 16 at 8:30 p.m. vs the Elora Rocks in Port Elgin.
