The Tiverton Thunder Atom Local League team played to a tie against Hanover, and defeated Kincardine No. 2, in hockey action this past week.

Dec. 17, the team travelled to Hanover to play at the P&H Centre.

J. D. Flood opened the scoring late in the first period, unassisted, in a battle that was back-and-forth, with few chances at either end. Hanover tied up the game about a minute-and-a-half later.

The close battle continued into the second period with great work along the boards by Emma Arnold, Paige Santha, and Dana Craig. The goaltending by Austin Brown was not tested much by Hanover, however he made some great saves when he was called upon, keeping Tiverton in the battle.

Tiverton scored at the five-minute mark of the second period when J. D. Flood found the back of the net, with some help from Emma Arnold. But Hanover tied it up again.

There were more great chances by both teams in the third period, and Tiverton did some great passing during the game.

Brady McGillivray found the net with less than two minutes left in the game, putting Tiverton ahead. Hanover pulled its goalie to put some pressure on Tiverton in the final minutes of the game.

Swarming the net, the Hanover team managed to slide the puck by Austin Brown with 31 sceonds left in the game to tie the match. Hanover continued to pressure Tiverton in an effort to get the go-ahead marker, but Austin Brown held on to secure the tie at 3-3.

Dec. 19, Tiverton hosted the Kincardine No. 2 Atoms.

Due to sickness, Tiverton was short two players - Austin Brown and Spencer Adams were unable to make it. In their place, the coaching staff called up Brady Moulton and Ben Voskamp from the Novice team. Filling in for Austin Brown in net was Luke McBride making his goaltending debut of the season.

Opening the scoring late in the first period, Ben Voskamp scored his first of two on the night, with a helper from Brady McGillivray at the 2:40 mark. A little more than a minute later, Brittany Norman found the net, with assists going to J. D. Flood and Brady Moulton.

Kincardine lit up the scoreboard with less than six seconds left in the period. Great defensive partnering was evident with Jason Convay and Brady Moulton, as well as David Ballagh and Dana Craig keeping Kincardine hemmed in most of the game. When Kincardine did manage to break out, it was kept at a distance.

David Ballagh scored, unassisted, at the 5:23 mark of the second to make it a 3-1 game.

Late in the third period, Jason Convay made some nice moves for a marker, unassisted. Ben Voskamp scored again in the final seconds of the game, with help from Paige Santha, to make it 5-1 for Tiverton.

That win extends the Tiverton Thunder Atoms season record to seven wins, a single loss, and four ties. Nicely done gang! Go Thunder!
