The annual Purple Grove Christmas gathering was held Friday evening at the Purple Grove Community Centre. There was a good attendance with lots of little ones to liven things up. It was good to see Colleen and John Paul Greenwood's month-old daughter, Caitlyn; and Colton, the year-old son of Irene and David Collins. Heather Finnie was a helpful Master of Ceremonies conducting the children's choir to a rousing song of the “12 Days of Christmas,” AND THEN, Elvis made a return visit. Elvis played the guitar and we all sang "Here Comes Santa's Cows" - all three verses and the chorus amid much laughter. When we finished singing that and were singing “Here Comes Santa Claus,” didn't Santa walk in. He handed out gifts to all the children and some of the 'big kids' too. He had willing helpers in Maddy and Alexa Collins. After Santa left, the visiting continued as we hadn't had a community gathering for quite some time and there was lots of catching up to do. Thanks to the Finnie family, Mary Anne Kukoly and Deanna Scott for all their work in putting on a fun evening; to Doug MacDonald who supplied the Christmas tree; and to all the willing helpers that evening. OTHER COMMUNITY NEWS We're sorry to hear of so many folks fighting the flu. Whatever your illness is, please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Sympathy is sent to Mary Worthington and her family on the loss of her daughter, Jane. And, to all the folks who are working through the grieving process. The family of the late Janet and Jack Farrell gathered at the home of Kathy Martin in Kitchener Dec. 18. Everyone was keen to meet the latest additions to the family, Morgan Haleigh Roberts, born April 7, 2011; Cooper VandeSype, born June 22, 2011; and Fern Elizabeth Farrell, born Nov. 7, 2011. There were only five cousins unable to attend.

There
are so many wonderful Christmas gatherings - the Messiah Oratorio was
well-attended in Kincardine; the Candlelight service at Knox
Presbyterian Church in Ripley where everyone enjoyed the string
quartet; the various Christmas concerts (aren't the little ones
fun?); and all the churches and organizations that enjoy special
meals. The Presbyterian Church in Kinlough is looking forward to
hearing Bart Eisen share at the Christmas Eve Service.
Monday, Mary Anne Kukoly visited with her cousin, Shirley Gilders, in her new apartment in Clinton. Tuesday, she visited with Ruth McCosh and Sandra Forster in Goderich. Mary Anne also visited with Joyce McEwan and Sylvia Hasbury recently. Bernice Courtney hosted a gathering for friends to visit with her daughter, Mary, who was home from Atikokan for a few days before Christmas.
