Peter Morris (C) of the Kincardine Lions Club welcomes a table of seniors to the Christmas dinner held Sunday afternoon in the dining room at Crabby Joe's Tap and Grill in Kincardine

For the first time in about eight years, the Kincardine Lions Club welcomed the local seniors to a free Christmas dinner.

Former events were held in the Kincardine Hall at the Davidson Centre but the club was unable to continue.

Now, thanks to support from Crabby Joe's, Sobeys, and Tim Hortons, the Lions are back in business, treating the area's seniors to a turkey dinner with all the trimmings.

Lion George Ling said Ian Cumming of Crabby Joe's was very enthusiastic about the idea and offered his dining room for two sittings, 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., Sunday afternoon.

Kincardine Sobeys donated eight 20-pound turkeys, Crabby Joe's pitched in with the remaining food, Tim Hortons supplied the tea, coffee and dinner rolls, and the Lions Club helped serve the meal.

About 20 volunteers assisted at the event which served 86 seniors at each sitting, said Ling, adding that notices were posted at all seniors' facilities inviting the residents to attend.

"It's a wonderful way to give back to our community, especially our senior citizens," said Ling.
