Kincardine council was poised to select a service provider for the Kincardine Municipal Airport at the meeting Wednesday night (Dec. 14). However, instead, council took the matter into closed session at the end of the meeting, and has now decided to have a complete review done of the operations and management of the Kincardine Airport before committing to another long-term contract. Evans Aviation is the current service provider but its three-year contract was set to expire at the end of December this year. Council has directed staff to negotiate a one-year extension of that contract in order to allow a review by the new chief administrative officer (CAO), Murray Clarke, who is set to begin work Feb. 6, 2012. Three Requests for Proposal (RFPs) for airport service provider were received, with criteria based on work plan, experience, cost and customer service/public relations skills. The current contract cost is $68,535 per year, plus hourly rate for call-outs for fuel supply/emergency maintenance issues after hours. The motion approved by council Wednesday night, states that the RFPs for airport service provider be terminated and none of the proposals accepted. The CAO will be directed to commence a review of operations/management/policies at the airport and bring a report back to council.
