To the Editor:Our reason for ending up having our boat in Port Elgin is directly because of Peter Roedger.
We were still looking for a sailboat in the spring of 2010 and had emailed a number of marinas in the Grey Bruce area and beyond about getting a seasonal slip. Peter was the first to respond and invited us down to the marina, as he said there were seasonal slips available, and also a few sail boats for sale as well.
We shared many other emails and Peter patiently answered a number of my silly questions, as we were new to boating. It was after we had signed the contract for a seasonal slip in Port Elgin that I started to get email responses back from the other marinas. This was weeks later. They say the earlier bird gets the worm, and Peter got us.
We had just bought a house in Kincardine in the spring of 2011. It is only a few blocks from the marina and it would have made sense to move our boat down there but our decision to come back to Port Elgin for 2011 was also because of Peter. He is quite often the first face we see on arrival for our weekend getaway. He really seems to be where you need him at all times. Not everyone has that skill.
Over the past two seasons we have invited family, friends, colleagues and clients up to our boat. They all have come to Port Elgin on numerous weekends deciding to spend their time and money in the town simply because they love our little marina community of which Peter is truly the captain at the helm.
