Dear Editor:

The Port Elgin Marina Boating Community comprised of Power Boaters and Sail boaters are truly mourning the non-renewal work contract for 2012 for our beloved Harbour Master, Peter Roedger. It really seems like a "death" has occurred in our close knit boating family.

As boaters we spend approx 6 months of the year at the Marina sharing and enjoying great summer memories with fellow boaters. Peter is our Captain at the helm.

Upon entry into the Marina Office, Peter's presence behind the desk was always so highly accommodating to all of us as seasonal residents of the marina and to all the many transient visitors that docked through the boating season from all over Canada. His excellence in Customer Service will be greatly missed.

As an Ambassador for Port Elgin Marina, Peter, was always available at all hours of the day and night for any nautical needs, at no time did any of us as boaters ever hesitate to ask for Peter's assistance with any boating emergencies or boating concerns and no matter how small or trivial Peter would always take the time out of his very busy day to address everyone's needs.

This past boating season at our Marina was clouded with a lot of politics and at no time throughout the season did Peter even raise any eyebrows to the craziness of rumours, and at all times held us all together as a family with his extreme professional manner. His contagious smile will be greatly and sadly missed by all.

We personally as a family have experienced 4 great-fun-filled, highly low stressed boating seasons at the Port Elgin Marina on C-Dock under the direction of Peter Roedger.  In our own personal opinion a "great travesty" has occurred at the Port Elgin Marina, by Peter Roedger's Work Contract as Harbour Master not being renewed for 2012 by the Town Of Saugeen Shores.

To the Editor:

Recently my husband and I found out some very upsetting news.

The news was that our much loved and respected Harbour Master's contract was not renewed for the 2012 season. This we can not understand.

Peter was a great Harbour Master. His work ethetics and professionlism is second to none. He was always there to help, whether the problem was big or small. His smile would make us smile.

We have had our boat at the marina for the last 5 years, so we have gotten to know Peter. He was a great Harbour Master and no one will come even remotely close to replacing him.

We will miss you Peter! Port Elgin Harbour will never be the same without you at the helm!
