Montessori alternative early advanced education is coming to Saugeen Shores.
Jacqueline Stark Jacqueline Stark of Southamptohn, who has 18 years of Montessori teaching experience, is not only a qualified Montessori instructor, but her own children have gone through the system. "This is a system of one-on-one learning," she explains, "that creates a purposeful environment for higher learning." Montessori education began in 1907 when Dr. Maria Montessori wanted to improve education and, more importantly, foster a child's love for learning. Beginning at age three, children are encouraged to develop in their own environment as a foundation for education. Children are given the opportunity to find real-life, in-home acti"vities that develop their specific interests and skills.\ Each Montessori classroom has five specific areas of learning: Practical Life:
Exercises under this area are designed to teach students to function and interact with their surroundings and is, in fact, the foundation of their learning. Children learn to develop independence, order, self-mastery, focus and physical development. Children find and develop real-life activities that are found in the home. Sensorial:
The sensorial area lets children develop their senses and help children to become observers. They also develop pre-math skills and sequencing of reading and writing. Language: It has been proven that children absorb languages at an early earl and, from three to six, language focuses on phonetic sound, vocabulary, writing and reading. Math: Mathematics focus on numeration and the decimal system and , after extensive work with fundamentals, students are introduced to addition, subtraction, multiplication and division concepts taught with lots of movement and group work. Culture:
Understanding the world and experiencing a place in the universe through exploration of plants, animals, human anatomy, the earth and other cultures.

The Montessori education method helps the student become a discoverer, gain independence and naturally progress through early stimulating learning. The materials are the teacher and the [teacher] instructor is the link between the child/student and the materials. Social skills are also highly developed through interaction that raises self-esteem and develops good work habits. The Montessori method believes that freedom and discipline go hand-in-hand and that the 'work cycle' helps in the development of concentration, order and independence. Although the nearest Montesssori educational facility to Saugeen Shores is in Owen Sound, Stark is proposing to bring the alternative higher education method to Saugeen Shores.
