Kincardine
has won its first Novice Silver Stick title since 2005. The Home Hardware Kinucks defeated BCH, 5-1, Friday morning, to finish the Kincardine Regional Silver Stick undefeated and take the Novice "B" championship. This was a close game until the third period, when Kincardine's offence broke loose to put away the game in front of a huge crowd at the Davidson Centre. Jordan Beisel paced the attack with a hat-trick, scoring the only goal of the first period before tallying twice in a one-minute span midway through the third. Mitch Pyke assisted on the first-period maker. "We were a bit nervous, but I thought we played well," said Beisel, a Grade 3 student at Elgin Market Public School. "We played our positions and we have good shooting." Jordan Moulton also had a big game for Kincardine, scoring twice. He put Kincardine ahead 2-0 in the second period, and 3-0 with a goal early in the third. BCH made it 3-1 when Cory Jewett scored from Trent Falconer, but Beisel sealed the game with a shorthanded goal shortly after. Beisel completed the hat-trick exactly one minute after he scored his second goal, on a nice deke. With the victory, Kincardine qualifies for the International Silver Stick finals in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, in January. Kincardine had faced BCH once before this season in exhibition action, and picked up a 5-3 win. "We knew we could win the tournament if we played well and headman the puck," said Moulton, 8. "It's exciting we get to go to the U.S.A." The Dundalk Novices are also headed south. Dundalk claimed the Novice "C" championship Friday morning with a 3-1 win over Seaforth. In Pee Wee finals, Mildmay defeated Norwich, 3-1, Friday to take the "C" championship; and Listowel blanked Goderich, 2-0, to take the "B" championship.
