About 100 people joined the Kincardine Legion, Branch 183, for its 2012 New Year's Levee Sunday afternoon in the newly-renovated club room.

Branch president Maureen Couture welcomed everyone and offered a toast to our fallen comrades. Chaplain Jim Weir raised a toast to Queen Elizabeth II in the 60th year of her reign, and District C Commander Stew Taylor gave a toast to the year 2012.

Couture noted that Jan. 14, 2012, marks the 75th anniversary of the Kincardine Legion. The branch is planning some activities in the spring to celebrate this milestone, she said.

Kincardine mayor Larry Kraemer welcomed everyone on behalf of the municipality, and thanked the Legion for all its hard work in the community - for the elderly, for the disadvantaged, and for all the citizens who enjoy the parades and activities put on by the Kincardine branch.

"We recognize the work you do and we thank you," he said. "You have an important task, helping us to remember the people who sacrificed everything so we can enjoy this free and prosperous country. This is the greatest place to live and raise a family. Happy New Year!"

Taylor brought greetings from District C. "Congratulations on your 75th anniversary. I'm sure I have a certificate somewhere for that - or I'll have to make one up! Here's to a prosperous and healthy 2012."

Couture thanked all the volunteers who help out regularly at the Legion and its many activities, and the staff who work so hard as well.

Everyone was invited to stay for lunch and enjoy comradeship afterwards.
