Morgan Baker of Kincardine has been playing goal since she was seven years old as a Novice with Kincardine Minor Hockey.

In March, she will be minding the net at the Ontario Winter Games in Collingwood.

The Grade 9 student at Kincardine District Secondary School plays for the Saugeen Maitland Lightning which is currently ranked third in Canada for the Bantam AA group. She has had eight shut-outs this year and her Goals Against Average (GAA) is .823.

She would someday like to play in the national program and university hockey.

While she is short for a goalie, Morgan relies on her technique and quickness. She also plays for the KDSS girls hockey team and enjoys working with the younger goalies.

"I'm looking forward to the elite level of competition at the Ontario Winter Games, meeting other players and making new friends," says Morgan. "I'm a little nervous and excited, but I'm really looking forward to the opening ceremonies and getting on the ice."

Morgan tried out for the Games at a preliminary evaluation camp Aug. 30-31 in Sarnia. Other camps were held in Toronto, Thunder Bay and Ottawa.

Successful candidates from these camps will be selected to a team and will be required to attend the pre-event camp in Collingwood in March, just prior to the Games.

Each camp had the same three evaluators, appraising the players. More than 500 Bantam-aged girls (more than 80 goalies) attended these camps.

March 6, Morgan is to report to the Games for a three-day training camp, and the tournament runs March 8-11.

The 2012 Ontario Winter Games, hosted by the Town Collingwood, will take place across the Georgian Bay area.

The Games are a highly-recognized, multi-sport competition that showcase some of Ontario's best amateur athletes - some progressing to National Championships, Canada Games, Pan Am Games, Commonwealth Games, Olympic Games or World Championships.

While the Games are host to sports that take place indoors and outdoors, spectators are sure to witness some of the best live sport action they'll ever see.
