The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks bested the Mapleton-Minto 81s by a 7-3 margin on Sunday afternoon.
The line of Darryl McKinnon, Ryan Dudgeon and Brent MacDermid staked the Winterhawks to an early lead with three first period goals.
MacDermid notched the first, his 11th of the season with assist to McKinnon and Dudgeon.
Dudgeon scored three minutes later, his fifth of the season, with assists to MacDermid and McKinnon.
McKinnon then got into the act with his fifth of the season with both teams a man short. Dudgeon notched the assist.
The 81s got one back with less than a second left in the first to narrow the margin to two.
With a new goalie between the pipes for the 81s, the Hawks continued to roll as Greg Virgo ripped a shot into the top corner, glove side for a 4-1 lead and Virgo's 13th goal of the season.
The 81s got one back with Derek Skinner in the penalty box for four minutes for an incidental high sticking penalty. The puck deflected in off the skate of a Winterhawks defender.
Hawks captain Greg Thede wristed a power play goal from the point to make it 5-2 late in the second frame. Trevor Smith made it 6-2 for the Hawks and then the two teams traded goals for a 7-3 final.
On Friday night, the Winterhawks battled to a 4-3 win over the third-place Elora Rocks.
Matt Turcotte scored two in the first to put the Hawks up but early but Elora responded with two of their own to tie it up. The second period saw no scoring but the Hawks turned it up in the third with goals by Blake Underwood and Brent MacDermid.
Elora narrowed the margin with a late goal but the Hawks held on for the win.
The Winterhawks final game of the regular season will see the second-place Durham Thundercats travel to Saugeen Shores on Friday, January 27 for an 8:30 p.m. start
