With our first bad weather of 2012 Bruce Peninsula OPP reports investigating nine collisions. The majority involved vehicles simply sliding into the ditch. At 2:30 pm, Tuesday, a driver lost control of his vehicle and hit a hydro pole on Bruce Road 9 near Purple Valley and one motorist struck a deer.
Although no one was seriously injured in the reported collisions, a 52-year-old Northern Bruce Peninsula man reported to police today that his vehicle had slid into the ditch on Dorcas Bay Road around 7:00 pm Tuesday. Not having proper clothing to be out in the weather or a cell phone to call for help, he elected to stay with his car and ended up spending the night in it. He was found early this morning safe.
Over the past week, motorists in Bruce and Grey have had to deal with rain, freezing rain, fog, and snow. Travelling in winter can be treacherous.
Be prepared by wearing proper clothing or carrying extra coats, hats, boots, gloves and a blanket in your car, just for that unexpected emergency. Keep your fuel tank full in case you get stranded and carry extra windshield washer fluid. Snow tires give you an advantage on snow or ice covered roads and most importantly, slow down. Arriving safely at your destination should be your first consideration.
