Editior,

I have always considered myself to have a strong work ethic until I worked at the Port Elgin Harbor. This was not due to the strenuous nature of the job but because of the superb example of my boss, Peter Roedger.

I have never witnessed anyone dedicate themselves so fully to a job and always with a smile on his face. Each day I strove to work as hard as I possibly could merely because of the dread of letting Peter down. This too was only a fear because Peter never showed an ounce of negativity towards his staff, but rather was often heard telling us to take a break, giving us high fives or spontaneously buying us treats.

Before he left for home, which was usually after a very long shift, he would always shake our hands, thank us and tell us how much he appreciated our hard work. Though Peter knew the appropriate times to be strict, he rarely ever had to because we all held the utmost respect for him.

I will never forget the summers that I worked for Peter and will forever remember the kindness, support and confidence that he gave to me.

Peter will continue to be an influence in my life for I will always try to emulate his positive attitude and charisma in the work place as well as in dealing with people in general. His gracious and caring manner are qualities that I will always hold in high regard and I believe that in trying to be more like Peter, I would not only hold characteristics of a good leader but of a role model.

I along with the other six harbor staff members will not be returning to work for the town, as they have taken the best part of our job away, our boss Peter Roedger. As hard as the town tries they will never find a replacement coming close to Peter's ability. He is truly the most intelligent, wise and gracious man we have ever met.

The town of Saugeen shores is imprudent, and foolish for giving up one of our town’s greatest assets. The town of Saugeen Shores will soon come to regret the selfish and shameful decision they have made, as no other person could make such a positive impact on the Port Elgin harbor as Peter Roedger has.
