Owen Sound construction numbers down in 2011

Although Saugeen Shores leads the region in development and construction, Owen Sound also continues to move in a somewhat positive direction.

December, 2011 saw a construction value of $1.1 million compared to $583,390 in December, 2010.  Over the year, permits issued were slightly less at 425 compared to 451 in 2010 but with a substantial difference in dollar amounts at $16 million in 2011 compared to more than $70 million in 2010

Residential construction saw a decline but was  offset with an increase in industrial and institutional development.

In 2011, there were approximately 20 major projects:

January:

• construction of interior alterations to a downtown building, 801 2nd Ave East, valued at $75,000

February:

• construction of an exercise enclosure at the Grey County Jail, 1259 3rd Ave East, valued at $195,000

March:

• installation of plumbing of an office building, 1415 1st Ave West, valued at $500,000

• construction of interior tenant improvements in a new two-storey office building, 1042

2nd Ave East, valued at $200,000

April:

• construction of an addition to St. Basil’s School, 925 9th Ave West, valued at $1.3 million

• construction of a new Dental Clinic, 1520 9th Ave East, valued at $350,000

• alterations to the Grey Bruce Health Services Withdrawal Management offices, 495 9th Ave East, valued at $106,000

May:

• complete new plumbing for the new Alexandra Community School, 1556 8th Ave East, valued at $956,000

July:

• construction of a new LCBO, 1613 9th Ave East, valued at $1.3 million

August:

• alteration of office space for MPAC at the Professional Centre, 945 3rd Ave East, 2nd Floor, valued at $380,000

• installation of a new sprinkler system at Summit Place, 850 4th St East, valued at $365,000

September:

• construction of an addition at St. Mary’s High School, 555 15th St East, valued at $305,000

• construction of a new hydro station building, 1025 6th St East, valued at $200,000

• exterior alterations to the former CPR Station, 1198 1st Ave East, valued at $115,000

October:

• interior tenant improvements to an office building, 1415 1st Ave West, valued at $255,000

November:

• construction of interior alterations to a commercial building, 1195 2nd Ave East valued at $115,000

December:

• construction of interior tenant improvements to the new LCBO building, 1613 9th Ave. East, valued at $600,000

Residential:

• construction of 13 new single detached houses, valued at $2.3 million

• construction of 14 townhouses, valued at $2 million

• reconstruction of a demolished 11-unit apartment building, 464 11th St 'A' West, valued at $543,225
