The Canadian Tire Atom girls trounced Durham, 15-1, Wednesday at the Davidson Centre.

The match began with a "Meeting of the Mascots” at centre ice as the Durham Husky and the Kincardine Monkey supervised the warm-up.

The game started quickly with Durham moving the puck into Kincardine’s end and goalie Rose Pande making a beautiful save less than a minute into the game.

Kincardine retaliated within seconds, with Alyssa Andrews putting one in, top shelf. The action continued with Katie Voskamp placing one in the twine from near the blue line. Georgia Tanner led a speedy charge down the ice from a face-off only to be denied.

Laura Fohkens followed with two more goals (assisted by Jessica Gouthro and Slayde Millar) for Kincardine, making the score 4-0 at the end of the first.

Two minutes into the second, Emma Twolan made it 5-0 and goalie Pande adeptly stopped a couple of shots from Durham to maintain the score.

Fohkens completed her hat-trick shortly after, then Millar, unassisted, put the puck in with a minute left on the clock. Durham didn’t give up though and managed to sneak one in, with 25 seconds to go, bringing the tally to 7-1 heading into the third.

Andrews started the period off by scoring two more and completing her own hat-trick (assisted by Abby Swann and Claire Hunsburger).Tanner achieved success with a nice pop-up goal.

Fohkens then added her fourth and final goal (must be the new, longer stick!). Twolan sent a beauty of a pass to Libby Fletcher who promptly tipped it into the net. Millar scored her second soon after, and Chloe Page was more than ready to pop in a rebound from Voskamp.

It looked as if the game was over, but Hunsburger made a dash down the ice to score on her own rebound with 16 seconds left, bringing the score to 15-1 for the Atom girls.

We saw some great stick work from Abby McCormick and some fantastic passing of the puck by all.

Great teamwork girls! Good luck Friday in your meeting with Mount Forest. Hope Kaeleigh Heydon is back in action by then!
