Kincardine cannot afford much-needed hospital expansion and natural gas project,

Does Kincardine council understand that we, as taxpayers, simply cannot afford to pay for two huge projects, such as the natural gas project and the much-needed hospital expansion?

I see the municipal office is looking for letters of support for the natural gas study, but how can someone submit a
letter supporting a project if the actual costs are unknown?

They (Union Gas) conducted a poll of only 300 residents and asked if they'd want natural gas. Of course, this misleading poll led to a positive answer from those who were asked because it didn't include the comment that it may cost you "this" amount.

I wonder, however, how many of those who responded would have the same answer if they were asked, "Would you convert to natural gas, knowing it would cost this much to connect, this much to covert your home, and this much will be added to your tax bill because the upper levels of government are not going to fund this project as they continue to try and regain their poor credit rating?"

If my taxes are going to go up yet again, I would strongly urge council to consider we need to start saving for the hospital expansion, and my first suggestion would be to abandon the natural gas project and start putting money away for the inevitable and much-needed hospital expansion.

A newly-renovated hospital will mean much more to the whole community and future residents than natural gas ever will.
