To the Editor: I would just like to comment on the article about the hospital food being better for you. During the month of December, my mother was a patient at the Kincardine hospital. Let me first say the staff was absolutely wonderful and took great care of my mother. The food on the other hand was awful . It's supposed to be up to par with Canada's Food Guide and it may well be, but it's of no use to patients if they don't eat it because it's unidentifiable. My mother is diabetic and was fed sherbet the night she was admitted with a broken leg and her blood sugar level was over 18. She was given mouldy grapes on another occasion, sour milk with her Cheerios, and the toast was almost always burnt and soggy. Food Services can hide behind the Canada Food Guide all it wants, but the bottom line is the food is slop. The fruit cups not only say Product of China but half the writing on the product is in Chinese. There is no such thing as a sodium-reduced diet in the hospital as all patients are given the same meal. The number of complaints may have fallen off due to the fact that the people of this area are tired of complaining to Mr. (Paul) Davies (CEO of the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, including Kincardine hospital) and the hospital board, because those complaints have fallen on deaf ears. Let's bring on the survey, by all means give it to everyone who has been in the hospital for the past six months and see what they say.

Mr. Davies and Ms.
(Jennifer) Van
Manen (manager of dietary services) should eat these meals every day,
three meals a day for three weeks. They won't like "what's good for
them".
