A recently-implemented pilot project with our local “Community Living” friends is occurring each Tuesday morning in our Legion hall. Under the guidance of their supervisors, the Community Living Group is able to enjoy a musical and physical activities program while sheltered from the winter environment. This is a two-way venture as members of Community Living also volunteer their help during our Legion catering commitments from time to time. This is another way your Legion branch contributes to the local community. This week, Wendy Dyer our Youth and Education chairperson, will be presenting monetary prize awards and certificates to the winners of our Branch’s Remembrance Day Poster and Literary Contests which were conducted last November. Many students from St. Anthony’s School, Kincardine Township-Tiverton Public School and Huron Heights Public School participated in this annual project designed to encourage “Remembrance” amongst our youth. Poster categories are “coloured” or “ black and white”, while the literary contest requires the submission of a poem or essay. Both contests are based on the “Remembrance” theme. This Saturday, Jan. 28, several Branch members will be proceeding to the Guelph Legion, Branch 234, for a seminar on Training and Organizational Development. This seminar will be conducted by the Legion’s Provincial Chairman for this subject committee. It will outline and review responsibilities and duties of the various Legion Branch officer positions. It will also identify and suggest easier and more prudent ways of accomplishing those responsibilities. It will be utilizing a “Buzz Group” format which involves all attendees participating in groups to initiate discussion. Last but not least, plans are well under way to hold a great “Super Bowl Party” at our Branch on Sunday, Feb. 5. Doors will open at 4 p.m. Traditional “tail gate” food will be available including chicken wings, chili and pizza; all the while enjoying this classic contest on our 54-inch TV in our newly-renovated clubroom. To conform to responsible liquor consumption there will be free local transportation home for those who wish. So plan to join us for this event and spread the word. Also be prepared to cheer for the team you support! Everyone is welcome!!
