Goderich Pirates forward Sean Burton of Kincardine had an assist for his 999th point, then scored in the second period for his 1,000th regular season career point, Friday night, against the Thedford Dirty Dogs. The Pirates flooded the ice after the puck crossed the line and
celebrated with Burton. The Pirates scored 25 seconds into the first period on a goal by Josh Gaynor, with assist going to Matt MacPhee and Kyle Provily. Six minutes later, they went up 2-0 on a goal by Glen McCarron with assist going to Kyle Provily and Sean Burton. Thedford scored late in the first to draw the Pirates lead to just one goal. The Dirty Dogs than scored on the powerplay in the second period to even the score at two a piece. Burton than made WOAA history with his goal for a 3-2 lead, but once again the Dirty Dogs scored another powerplay goal to even the score at three. The teams traded late goals in the second with defenceman Mike Gillen snapping one in, with assist going to Matt MacPhee and Jeff Silver. Chris Stanley scored three minutes into the third period to give the Pirates a 5-4 lead on a nice set up from Mike Gillen. Once again the Dirty Dogs came back and evened things up at 5-5 four minutes later. The teams battled back and forth for the rest of the third period but the score remained tied at 5-5 sending it to overtime. The Pirates were badly outplayed in the overtime being outshot 8-3 and Thedford finally put the winner past Tyler Koot with only 33 seconds remaining in overtime. The win for Thedford gives it the two points the Pirates really wanted. The Pirates get another point in the overtime loss but with Thedford getting the win and the two points, both teams are now tied for the final playoff spot in the south division standings.

Thedford actually would finish with the final playoff spot if the regular season ended today since they have one more win than the Pirates in the standings. The Pirates now have their work cut out for them. They have five games remaining in the season where they absolutely need to find a way to win if they want to battle in the playoffs. The Pirates were set to play Tavistock Royals Saturday and faced Milverton Sunday.Scrolling stops when you move your mouse inside the scroll area. You can click on the ads for more
